Question 1

What is the difference between a cat jacket and a cat coat?

Accepted Answer

The terms are often used interchangeably, but there's a practical difference. A cat jacket typically has structured sleeves and a defined fit — designed for movement and outdoor warmth. A cat coat tends to be longer and fuller, providing more coverage for colder conditions or indoor wear. At nudiecats, both styles are sized specifically for cats — with options suited to Sphynx, Devon Rex, Cornish Rex and all other breeds.

Question 2

Do all cats need a jacket or coat, or just hairless breeds?

Accepted Answer

Hairless and fine-coated breeds — Sphynx, Devon Rex, Cornish Rex — genuinely need outerwear to stay warm. But plenty of domestic and mixed-breed cats also benefit from a layer in cooler months, especially kittens, senior cats, or cats who spend time in air-conditioned homes. If your cat seeks out warm spots, curls tightly, or shivers, a well-fitted jacket or coat makes a real difference.

Question 3

What type of cat jacket or coat is best for winter?

Accepted Answer

For colder months, look for a padded or fleece-lined jacket with full coverage from neck to base of tail. The nudiecats Winter Explorer Jacket is our warmest option — a structured, water-resistant shell ideal for cooler days. For mild winter or indoor air-conditioning, the Adventure Club Zip Jacket is lighter and easier to put on and take off.

Question 4

What is the best jacket for a Sphynx, Devon Rex or Cornish Rex cat?

Accepted Answer

For Sphynx cats, choose a zip or snap fastening so you're not pulling anything over their head. Their deep chest and broad shoulders need a jacket cut specifically for that body shape — standard pet jackets won't fit correctly. Devon Rex and Cornish Rex cats need a softer, lighter layer — their short, fine coats provide minimal warmth and they feel the cold more than most. All nudiecats jackets are tested on real hairless cats before they go in the shop.

Question 5

How do I put a jacket on my cat?

Accepted Answer

Zip jackets are the easiest — lay the jacket flat, slip your cat's front legs into the sleeves, then zip along the back. Button-up styles fasten from the front. Every product page on nudiecats has a video so you can see exactly how it goes on before you buy. Most cats adapt quickly, especially hairless breeds already used to wearing clothes.

Question 6

How do I measure my cat for a jacket or coat?

Accepted Answer

You need three measurements: chest girth (around the widest part of the chest), neck girth (around the base of the neck), and back length (from the base of the neck to the base of the tail). Our sizing guide has step-by-step instructions and a sizing calculator built for different breeds. When in doubt, size up — a slightly loose jacket is always preferable to one that restricts movement.
